Last weekend myself and other Bournemouth University students took part in the Cherry Game Jam organised by the University itself and Creative England. The theme was, with the recent Bournemouth AFC promotion news, cherry, interpreted however we like. Myself and Brett Whitehead (old Static Games colleague) teamed up with fellow course member Keiron Overton, and Digital Effects and Animation students Adam Coburn and Jilly Whittaker. I initially started thinking about all the cherries that were commonplace in gaming, be it gambling machines, Pac-Man, or Animal Crossing, and the idea of them gaining their revenge on the playing protagonists, which led into talking about nostalgic action games... and Revenge of the Cherry was born!

With the game, a trailer, and a presentation focusing on potential commercialization, we impressed the three industry judges, two from local studios Amuzo and one from independent studios RetroFist, enough for us to come joint first with one other team. We're currently looking into developing our title further, perhaps even one day for commercial release, so watch this space.
